Cleaning and Maintenance

Frequently Asked Questions

Use a mild, citric acid-based cleaner and apply it to a cloth, not directly onto the product. Rinse thoroughly after use.

Do not use cleaning agents with hydrochloric acid, formic acid, chlorine bleach, or acetic acid. Avoid abrasive scouring agents or tools.

Do not put entire overhead showers in the dishwasher, as the plastic parts are not designed for the high temperatures.

If a lotion dispenser is not working, the pump may be clogged. Soaking it in hot water should help.

Follow the detailed steps provided in the full FAQ document for light and deep scratches, polishing, and maintenance.

Troubleshooting

Frequently Asked Questions

A slow drip after showering is normal due to water tension. To speed up the process, tilt the shower head downwards (if it has a ball joint), wipe the nozzles with a squeegee, or regularly descale the shower head.

A filter screen between the pull-out hose and spray head can become clogged. Remove it using a pointed object, clean it, and re-insert it.

A buzzing sound and inconsistent temperature can be caused by a dirty or defective non-return valve. It needs to be replaced.

If water leaks from the swivel area of a tap, replace the seals on the spout. You can find spare parts in the online catalogue.

The diverter’s O-ring or plunger are either dirty or require lubrication. Both must be cleaned and lubricated using silicone grease.

A dirty aerator can cause low flow performance. You can find a detailed description of how to clean it here.

We need the article number or a photo of the product so that we can check whether the water flow can be corrected in the tap. Please send us this information via our contact form.

Frequently Asked Questions

The concealed bodies are made from Dezincification Resistant brass as per SANS 1480 and SANS 226. The brass body is housed in a plastic cover which is sealed to prevent water escaping into the wall cavity.

Normally you will not need to break tiles or the wall, as the working parts of the concealed parts are accessible by removing the handle and cover plate. If the connection between the mixer and the main pipe is leaking, then unfortunately you have to break open the space to repair it.

Our surface finishes are plated to a very high standard (Electroplating or PVD plating) and if the cleaning instructions provided on our website are adhered to, the Vitruvius tapware should last a long time.

Electroplating is a process that uses electric current to dissolve metal to form a metal coating. It is harder wearing than powder coating but still requires care.

PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) produces a high-strength coating that is harder and more corrosion-resistant than electroplating. It’s also environmentally friendly as it creates no waste products.

Vitruvius Design products meet and exceed South African standards of SANS 226 and SANS 1480. All brass products are made from DZR brass. Vitruvius Design and its sub-brands are JASWIC approved and listed.

The recommended water pressure range is: 1 Bar minimum – 100 Bar maximum. Mains pressure systems are required; gravity-fed systems are not compatible.

Yes, all basin mixer and kitchen mixers are limited to 5L/minute at 3bar and our shower heads are limited to between 18L/min and 7L/min at 3bar.
